Founded in 1973 with its headquarters in Catalonia, just outside Barcelona, the company has grown to become Spain's largest manufacturer in the bagging industry and one of the top players across Europe.
With a global team of over 200 specialists, the company delivers tailor-made machinery. Their systems cover the entire production chain from dosing and precision weighing to bagging, robotic palletizing, and transport security wrapping.

Challenges
Before launching the project, PAYPER faced three core challenges in their global quoting process:
- Complex system configurations: Quoting complete production lines—where multiple advanced machines must be configured to work seamlessly together—required a system with strong support for hierarchical product structures and dependency rules.
- Advanced pricing and margin control: Pricing was based on complex calculations involving a wide range of cost types, various item classes, and strict margin requirements, making manual management time-consuming and prone to errors.
- High aesthetic standards for quote documents: As a market leader, it was critical that the generated sales proposals maintained an exceptionally high visual and professional standard to accurately reflect the premium quality of the machinery.

Powerful system configuration
To handle PAYPER’s complex deliveries, a configurable product structure spanning four distinct levels was implemented using the Combinum Composite module. This structure extends seamlessly from the overarching project level down to specific production lines, functional groups, and individual machines.
Through advanced rule-based logic, a vast number of parameters interact across these levels to automate and optimize the configuration of:
- Customer environments and system requirements: Ensures the entire production line is adapted to local conditions and technical specifications.
- Machine configuration: Governs the selection and interaction of machines for dosing, weighing, bagging, and palletizing.
- Engineering services and maintenance agreements: Dimensions the required engineering hours, commissioning, and future service contracts.
- Acceptance testing and logistics: Integrates requirements for Acceptance Tests (FAT/SAT) as well as shipping and delivery terms.
- Commercial conditions: Automates the calculation of complex discount structures, sales commissions, and margins.
Advanced multi-level pricing and margin control
To accommodate PAYPER’s requirements for complex cost and price calculations, a robust solution was implemented leveraging Combinum’s calculation attributes. This feature enables sequential calculations to be performed at each individual level of the configuration hierarchy, with data then automatically aggregating and summarizing up to the parent levels. To further optimize the process and guarantee total control over margins and item classes, Combinum’s powerful rule engine was extended with tailored functions uniquely adapted to PAYPER’s global pricing model.
Tailored and high-aesthetic quotes
PAYPER’s strict requirements for design and content were fully met by combining the import of existing Word stylesheets with the advanced layout and image positioning capabilities of the Combinum Reports module. The result is completely automated, world-class quote documents.
Key features of the document generation solution include:
- BOM-driven content: The specific product descriptions and technical images included in the proposal are automatically determined by the modular items generated within the configured bill of materials (BOM).
- Dynamic layout engine: Advanced logic ensures that layouts, tables, and graphics are positioned flawlessly, perfectly reflecting PAYPER’s high-tech brand identity.
- Flexible manual adjustments: Sales reps can easily insert custom text and formatting using built-in markup support directly within the Combinum user interface.
